Day 2 - Bucharest - Buzau - Focsani
There is a spectacular place in Romania, at Berca, nearby Buzau, called the Muddy Volcanoes. This is a natural reservation very scarce in vegetation, where the soil is made of dried mud coming out from small volcanoes mouths. The land is soft, but it is possible to walk on it. Yet, in some parts you have the strange sensation that it will collapse and you’ll end up swallowed by the mud. At first sight, you would think that the volcanoes are hot, but if you have the curiosity to put a finger inside the mud, you’ll be surprised to see that they are cold.
Day 3 - Focsani - Iasi
In the morning we will travel 37 km outside Focsani to experience one of the most fascinating and unseen marvels of the nature. The reservation is on the terrace of Milcov river, near the village of Andreiasu de Jos, locality situated near Focsani. It is a natural phenomenon caused by gas eliminated from the earth forming flames which burn constantly. The area, known as the 'Live fire' was declared geological reservation in 1995. The cause of the 'Live fire' are deposits of hydrocarbons which are coming to the surface. Terrace deposits contribute to gas ignition. The number of these fires is variable, the flames have heights from 10 cm to 50 cm. Flames are extinguished when it rains, but you can still see water bubbles in the places where gas continues to emerge.
We leave Focsani and continue our journey to Iasi.
